A cocktail room hiding in plain sight
The Woolworth is the rare downtown spot that works equally hard on both sides of the pass: a kitchen turning out confident New American plates and a bar whose smoked Old Fashioned has become a small local legend. Perched one floor above street level, it rewards the people who know to look up.
History and concept
The restaurant takes its name from its home — the handsome 1913 building that once housed the F.W. Woolworth flagship store in Dallas. Rather than playing museum, the team folded that heritage into a modern restaurant-bar hybrid: chef-driven food, craft cocktails and a room designed for lingering, in a stretch of downtown that keeps getting livelier.
What to order
Dinner leans polished-comfort: seared scallops with seasonal vegetables, salmon in lemon butter, and salads sharp enough to hold their own. Weekend brunch is a downtown ritual — chicken and waffles and avocado toast on sourdough lead the lineup. At the bar, start with the smoked Old Fashioned and let the bartenders steer from there; the happy hour list makes an early arrival worth it.
The space
A second-floor perch with a stylish, warmly lit interior and an outdoor terrace looking out over downtown — one of the nicer places in the city center to watch the skyline glow while your drink sweats. Inside, the mood sits between restaurant and lounge, easy for a long dinner or just a well-made nightcap.
Who it’s for
Downtown workers who deserve a better happy hour, couples pre-gaming a show or a night out, and cocktail people who judge a bar by its Old Fashioned.
Good to know
What is the signature drink? The smoked Old Fashioned — theatrical, balanced and worth the small wait.
Do they serve brunch? Yes, on weekends, with chicken and waffles as the anchor.
Is it more bar or restaurant? Genuinely both — full dinner menu with a bar program strong enough to visit on its own.
Is there outdoor seating? Yes, a terrace with downtown views; it fills quickly on mild evenings.
Do I need a reservation? Recommended for weekend dinners and brunch; weeknights are usually flexible.
